The initiative named 'The Graduate School GP' is part of a project started by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2005. It is to promote inspirational and original high-quality graduate studies and to nurture creative young researchers to meet the demands of our society. For more information, please refer to the homepage of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

In 2006, 'The cross-disciplinary DEGEIKO study system' of the Brain Science and Engineering was chosen for the Graduate School GP. Mr. Tetsuo Furukawa is in charge of the study system.

The principle of Kyushu Institute of Technology since its establishment has been to produce skillful, accomplished and competent "ladies and gentlemen" with a thorough grasp of technology. Based on this principle, we are promoting four mid-term objects. They are: Educating and producing engineers who will be recognized worldwide; Producing top-notch results in various research fields; Promoting industry-university cooperation and thereby contributing to society; Creating new techniques by cross-disciplinary collaboration.

In the department of Brain Science and Engineering, we will create new research and industry fields by combining neuroscience and engineering. As a harbinger, we will carry out first-rate research in the world. We will also contribute to our society through industry-university cooperation.

Regarding our research field in particular, we have been making steady progress in our 21st century COE program entitled the 'World of Brain Computing Interwoven out of Animals and Robots'.
