It has passed almost three month since I came to Australia. There is a proverb that time flies like an arrow and it can apply to my life in Australia. I am glad because winter break is coming soon, however, I also feel sad at the same time because my class of UTS is nearing an end.  My experience in Australia is very valuable for me, however, I am not sure wether it has changed my character or not.  I think it probably affects myself in someway. In this essay, I want to reflect on the events that have happened to me in Australia and describe each event and mention what I think about them.

I still remember the day when I arrived in Australia vividly.  I arrived at Sydney airport with a lot of expectations and touch of uncertainty. I went to UTS by taxi. I saw the cityscape of Sydney from the taxi. I was surprised at the fact that Sydney was endowed with nature although it was the urban area. In Japan, there are few opportunities that we can contact with nature in the urban areas such as Tokyo. I got to like Australia that had gentle harmony with nature from the first moment. But there was an incident. I had to go to Institute for international studies, however, I did not know where it was. So, I  got lost for as long as two hours. I was very tired but I could realize the largeness of Australian university from this experience.

I think I have become more active since I came to Australia. When I was in Japan, I was very busy with my research and I could not take the time to do athletic activities. However, my lifestyle has changed since I came here. Because I had more free time, so I could devote myself to many sports such as football, karate, kick boxing and so on. Karate was the most impressive in them. Although it was a little strange to be taught one of Japanese martial arts by a foreign teacher, the practice has influenced me not only physically but also mentally. I thought it was funny some Japanese words was used by foreign people during they were playing Karate. It is one of Australian features that there are many people who learn foreign culture like this. As the amount of assignments of school increased, I stopped karate and kick boxing unfortunately. Now, I have begun to practice swimming instead of them. The aim is to acquire the license of scuba diving and to see Great Barrier Reef in Cairns. I want to restart karate and kick boxing after winter break begins. Perhaps abundant nature of Australia and its comfortable climate have made me more active.

The class in AELC (Australian English Language and Culture) was interesting for me. Because my specialty in Japan was information technology, I had never received my education entirely in English education before I came to UTS. To be taught meanings or pronunciations of English words by English was fresh and stimulating for me and I could learn elivef English in the class. Compared with it, English education that I learned in Japan can be described edeadf English because they taught too much grammars. I think I have come to be able to learn English grammars and words more easily than ever before.  Excursion is very exciting class for me. I have been to various places in Sydney, for example, Newtown, Leichhardt, Powerhouse Museum, Watsons Bay and so on. I think each place had its good points, so I like all the places. However, the most impressive place was Manly where I went in the first class for me. Although my hometown, Nagasaki has many seas, I have never seen more beautiful sea than the sea of Manly. I was very fascinated by the contrast between transparent blue sea and snow-white beach. In Powerhouse Museum, I had a good time to enjoy interactive attractions in scientific section. But there was an incident after the class. I accidentally lost my digital camera. Although it was pity for me, the landscapes and the memories that I have seen or experienced in the excursion are still in my heart.

I think the teachers in AELC were all kind. They understood that the weakness of Japanese in English pronunciation and they also seemed to speak slowly for us. In particular, I accepted favours from Deborah and Kate. Deborah kindly helped me when I was stricken with a sudden stomachache in her class. Kate helped with my essay even after the class and she gave me copies of materials of her class when I told her that I lost them. I want to appreciate their kindness.

In conclusion, I think I had more difficult time to prepare for study in Australia than the other students because I had to conduct it in tandem with my research for graduation.

However, it was worth the hard work because it will become a special memory for all my life. It is thought that the experience also will affect me in a positive way. I want to enjoy the rest of my life in Australia and come here again if allowed the opportunity.
