About Symposium
In November 2023, Core-to-Core Satellite Symposium of MNC 2023 – Materials Meet Robots 2023 – will be organized by Research Center for Neuromorphic AI Hardware, Kyushu Institute of Technology. This symposium is a satellite symposium of 36th International Microprocesses and Nanotechnology Conference (MNC 2023). The aim of the symposium is to provide an opportunity for discussion with researchers of material science and robotics and to make new ideas for research collaborations.

Ideathon
The aim of this ideathon is to come up with new ideas for research collaborations of material science and robotics. Several teams including researchers/students of material science and robotics will be organized, discuss some ideas, and give presentations of the ideas. The presentation will be evaluated and the winner will get an extra prize.

Robot Demonstration
Participants have lunch while watching a robot working as a waiter at a real restaurant. The other robot with a material-based sensor is presented. These robots are presented by Hibikino-Musashi@Home, which is a robot developing team of Kyushu Institute of Technology.

On March 20, the Neumorph Center and Collaborative Research Center, National Institute of Technology, Ube College signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with an aim of enhancing education and research activities in the fields of materials and AI.

About symposium
In December 2022, the 4th International Symposium on Neuromorphic AI Hardware will be organized by Research Center for Neuromorphic AI Hardware, Kyushu Institute of Technology. We invite the submission of original research contributions relating to neuromorphic AI hardware. Authors willing to present may submit 1-page abstract using the following template via the following submission form by the deadline. The submitted papers will be reviewed by the committee and accepted papers will be assigned either oral presentation or poster presentation.
We still invite the submission for poster presentation until December 1st. Note that only in-person participants can present in the poster presentation. Because the registration form only accepts virtual participants, if you are willing to present and have not registered yet, please register as Virtual and contact us via neumorph-center[at]brain.kyutech.ac.jp.

Presentation instruction
Please present in English.
Presentation time will be notified in the e-mail of notification of acceptance.
Oral presentation (In-person)
Please prepare a computer compatible with HDMI output. The computer will be connected to a streaming device via HDMI cable and your slide show will be broadcasted to a venue screen and Zoom (therefore, in-person presenters do not need to install Zoom client on the computer).
Please avoid using optical laser pointers because the pointer will not be broadcasted to Zoom. Please use software laser pointer functions (e.g. laser pointer of MS PowerPoint) instead of them. We will also prepare Logicool SPOTLIGHT PRESENTATION REMOTE (driver installation is required).
Oral presentation (Virtual)
Please prepare a computer compatible with Zoom. Your slide show, video, and voice will be broadcasted to the venue and Zoom. Therefore, virtual presenters need to install Zoom client on the computer.
Poster presentation (In-person only)
Please prepare a poster of A0 size (vertical orientation). Posters will be pinned by thumbtacks (the committee will prepare).

On July 26th, the news that the director, Prof. Hirofumi Tanaka received the honorary degree of the Suranaree University of Technology by the princess of Thailand was introduced in the newspaper Nikkei Shinbun.
On June 20th, a paper authored by the center members, Prof. Nomura and Prof. Morie entitled Robustness of Spiking Neural Networks based on Time-To-First-Spike Encoding against Adversarial Attacks was published in an academic journal, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs.
Hibikino-Musashi@Home, supervised by the vice director Prof. Tamukoh, participated in the RoboCup Japan Open 2021 @Home Open Platform League (OPL) held on March 22nd-23rd and won 2nd place in the championship.
In @Home Open Platform League, participants use their original robots. The competition consisted of a Basic Functionality where basic functions of robots are evaluated, a Tidy Up task where robots clean up cluttered rooms, and a Technical Challenge where teams show their unique research results and their robot demonstrations. Hibikino-Musashi@Home won the Technical Challenge and won 2nd place totally.
Hibikino-Musashi@Home, supervised by the vice director Prof. Tamukoh, participated in the RoboCup Japan Open 2021 @Home Domestic Standard Platform League held on March 9th-12th and won the championship.
In @Home Domestic Standard Platform League, HSRs (Human Support Robots) developed by Toyota Motor Corporation are used as standard platforms and participants implement their software under the same hardware conditions. The competition consisted of a Tidy Up task where robots clean up cluttered rooms and a Technical Challenge where teams show their unique research results and their robot demonstrations. Hibikino-Musashi@Home won both competitions.
